MOMENTS LIKE THESE (ROYCD 283)
Dinah Shore

Dinah Shore’s first stereo album was made in 1958, featuring a dozen classic songs from the greatest songwriters, among them Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Harold Arlen, the Gershwins, Jule Styne, Frank Loesser – the list goes on. Add to these songs the lush orchestral arrangements of the great Harry Zimmerman, and the result is, in the words of Oscar Hammerstein, something wonderful. There are many who believe that Dinah never made a finer album in her long and distinguished career – and not surprising – just listen to these numbers. Was there ever a more brilliant version of Porter’s I Loved Him, or When the World Was Young? Listen to Dinah’s phrasing on the latter, her complete understanding of the lyric. These are lessons in the business.

In addition to the Moments Like These album, Flare is very happy to present another dozen of Dinah’s recordings, selected from her singles released during her final years with RCA Victor. They include many great recordings that have never been released on LP, let alone CD, including such rarities as Dealin’ the Blues, Tempting, Pretty Mandolin, What a Heavenly Night, Hey, Babe, Hey! and her beautiful version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

The CD is presented with an 8-page booklet illustrated with many photographs.
