"New Girl in Town" opened on Broadway in the spring of 1957, ran for 431 performances, and was nominated for three Tony Awards. One of them was won, shared by the show's two female stars, the brilliant Gwen Verdon, fresh from "Damn Yankees", and Thelma Ritter, known for her stellar work in numerous movies. Based on a play by Eugene O'Neil, the musical had a book written by George Abbott, and a score written by the very talented Bob Merrill - who went on to further fame with "Funny Girl" and "Carnival".
The original cast album has been out of print for some considerable time, and Flare is pleased to be able to make it available once more - in its stereo version,
carefully
and
sensitively
remastered.
In addition, some very fine bonus tracks are presented on the CD, offering solos by Gwen Verdon as well as songs from the Bob Merrill canon.
