Mitzi
Gaynor
Hollywood star Mitzi Gaynor became known to millions of movie-goers through her appearances in a number of hit musicals, among them Anything Goes, Golden Girl, There’s no Business Like Show Business, Les Girls and, of course, the most famous of all, South Pacific. Fresh from her phenomenal success in the latter, she recorded an album of songs with the orchestra of Pete King. It is a stunning collection, with a programme of songs from some of the finest composers. Delivered in Ms Gaynor’s soft, pitch-perfect voice with its rare, fluttery vibrato, they are all winners.
In addition to the 1958 album “Mitzi”, Flare is pleased to present other fine recordings by this much-loved artist, among them songs from the soundtrack of South Pacific and Anything Goes, as well as songs from her second solo album. Just listen to her exquisite phrasing, her wide octaval range. This is a lady who has rightly always been thought of as a fine actress, a terrific dancer, and a superb singer. As to the latter category, this album makes one listen anew. It reveals the sheer brilliance of the lady’s vocal talent.
