No question but that Maureen O’Hara was Hollywood’s most beautiful and talented Irish import – as she demonstrated so well in so many movies over the decades, her great beauty a gracious boon to Technicolor. Less well known is the fact that she also possessed a most beautiful singing voice, and although she sang in a few of her movies she never got to star in a screen musical. She did, however, record two studio albums, one of which, “Love Letters From Maureen O’Hara,” Flare was privileged to issue on CD a couple of years back. And now Flare presents her second album - on which she sings a number of her favourite Irish songs. And what an album it is. Full of humour, pathos and romance, it is a stunning piece, and is sure to remain a favourite.
Although Miss O’Hara never performed in a screen musical, she did star in one on Broadway - “Christine” . And here as a bonus Flare presents six of the tracks from the original cast recording – demonstrating the beauty of the score and, once again, the beauty of Miss O’Hara’s voice.
